How do Dr. Foot® Silver Protect toe socks work?

Heels and toes are particularly susceptible to germs. That’s why we’ve incorporated a naturally antimicrobial silver fiber at the forefoot and heel. On contact, it damages the outer layer of bacteria and fungi, weakening or killing them. 

• The spaces between the toes are protected areas for bacteria and microbes. Favored by poor ventilation in footwear and by lateral compression in shoes that are too tight or in conventional socks without toes, a humid-warm, dark greenhouse climate prevails here - ideal for harmful germs.
• Many microbes nest in the callus of the foot. Since heel and forefoot are put under the most strain when walking, a callus forms here as a protective layer.

Aren’t normal toe socks sufficient?

Normal toe socks without silver fiber are already a step toward improving foot health. However, toe socks with silver thread can provide an extra boost of protection in situations where the feet are exposed to particular risks. 

How are they different from normal socks with silver thread?

Conventional socks enclose the entire foot but ignore the shape of the toes. As a result, the toes are pressed together. At the same time, there is a retreat and protected space for microbes, especially between the toes, which is not only left out by the antimicrobial fabric, but is also further encouraged by the toes being pressed together. 

No silver thread is listed in the material labeling. Why?

The European textile labeling regulation provides no option to list silver threads in the material labeling.

How often can I wash my Dr. Foot Silver Protect before it loses its effect?

We use a silver thread that does not lose its effect. Even after 200 wash cycles, 99% of the antimicrobial effectiveness remains.
